Unwanted updates

A computer of mine has Windows 7. I don't plan to change that.
Often, when I shut-down, a message appears:
"Please Do Not Power Off or Unplug Your Machine.
Installing Update 1 of 1"
I believe that Windows 7 is no longer supported. So why are they
sending me updates, practically every day? Are these updates for real?
Could they be hazardous? Can I stop this behavior? Peter Rooney

Saying more . . . although this doesn't seem like much of a problem, it may be.
What happens if I actually do "Power Off or Unplug" when this message appears?
What happens if there's a loss of power?
